Rick Warren

I've never been one to follow Rick Warren, but I have heard alot of people speak up about his unbiblical teachings on various forums and blogs.

Lately Rick Warren has been showing up at Reformed conferences, and it is causing people to wonder if he has forsaken his former waywardness and taken up a more orthodox view.

This article says an absolute and resounding "NO!" , and that the lines between what is true and what is false are continuing to be more and more blurry. Please read it and decide for yourself.

  1. Yes, I wonder.

He's been teaming up with Piper a bit and I know that has to be disappointing to Piper's fans.

  2. There's alot of cause for concern in the person of Rick Warren.

Wikipedia has info on Rick and I believe it to be the secular pov of him, but what I've read there (although they make him seem orthodox)...toward the bottom you get a different picture...and I know that various people will contribute to Wikipedia, I don't get the feeling any of it is written by people who are against what he does or teaches

  3. That is so sad. I admit I know little about Piper, but know of church leaders who recommend his work and have read blogs who have shared various things from his site. Just sad.

  4. Hi Mrs Jennifer,

I've listened to about a dozen of John Piper's sermons and found the ones I listened to biblically sound. John Piper probably did want to pull Rick Warren's audiences into a more sound theological position, but I agree with the author of the article that it isn't wise to cozy up to wolves in sheep's clothing. I want to believe that John Piper had good intentions, and according to Romans 8:28, all things works for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose (not Rick Warren's Purpose, sheesh, ok that was a little lame, lol)... so I pray that it won't end up damaging Rick Warren's message.

  5. Warren is simply trying to maintain his influence with reformed circles and trying to repair his damaged machine. But Warren has a very convoluted grasp on the gospel which is to say no grasp. He is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Piper is the one I am worried about.

  6. Hi Gregg,

Thank you for your thoughts. I wrote my comment after midnite last night and meant to say I hope it doesn't damage John Piper's message...but said Rick Warren instead. I agree with you wholeheartedly, I'm concerned about John Piper. Rick Warren seems to know exactly what he's doing, and he doesn't care if he hurts or misleads the sheep for his own benefit (read: money and influence i.e. power), which definitely would make him a wolf in sheep's clothing, one that devours the true sheep.

Like I said at the top, I haven't been a follower of Rick Warren, so I haven't heard his preaching, but everything I've heard ABOUT him has been bad, even what comes from those who support him doesn't line up with scripture.

These are definitely perilous times. We are in a war, and the enemy is using every weapon in his deception arsenal.

    Thank you for visiting :-)
